BJP-led NDA Set to Retain Power in India’s General Elections #

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is projected to secure another term in the Indian parliament, although with a diminished majority. As per the Election Commission of India, the NDA is leading on nearly 290 out of 543 parliamentary seats, while the opposition Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) is leading on 230 seats. This indicates a loss of around 60 seats for the BJP compared to the 2019 elections. Unemployment, inflation, and governance issues have affected the shine of Prime Minister Modi’s popularity, leading to a closer contest. The benchmark indexes, Nifty 50 and the BSE Sensex, fell sharply as the BJP appeared unlikely to achieve a clear majority.
